For clients about to appoint a design team who don't have an in-house information manager.
Talk about a requirements pack
Most clients know they should tell their design team what information they need. Few have the time or in-house expertise to write it. Templates and AI tools can fill a page, but someone still has to decide what your organisation actually needs. If the client doesn't decide, the design team decides for you. You pay for models nobody uses, and still don't get the asset data, fire safety information or handover records you need to run the building.
Decisions, made with you: a two-hour workshop that settles what information you need to run your organisation, operate the building and make project decisions (in ISO 19650 terms, your OIR, AIR and PIR), and what you don't need.
Your requirements for the design team, right-sized for the project (what ISO 19650 currently calls the Exchange Information Requirements, or EIR).
A project information standard: how files are named, status codes, formats and when information is handed over.
A security triage, so sensitive information is controlled from day one.
A checklist your team's software can read: the key requirements also supplied as an IDS file. IDS (Information Delivery Specification) is a free international format from buildingSMART that BIM software can use to check each model delivery against your requirements automatically. If your team doesn't use it yet, the written requirements work on their own.
Everything ready to drop into your appointments, in plain English, signed off by a named, certified practitioner, and labelled with both current and draft-revision terms.
Week 1: a two-hour workshop with you, and your asset or facilities team if you have one. 50% is invoiced on order.
Weeks 2–3: we draft the pack and the IDS checklist; you get one round of comments.
End of week 3: the final pack is issued and the remaining 50% invoiced.
Developers, housing providers, estates teams, schools and trusts, and private clients commissioning a building: especially if this is your first time setting information requirements, or it's a higher-risk building where the golden thread starts at design.
Not ready yet? Try the free information requirements generator. It builds a right-sized first draft in about ten minutes, and you can send it to us for a £1,200 review.
